Living with a Foreign Exchange Student

Sometimes I feel like I'm living with a foreign exchange student. I talk all day to this little person that listens and then tries to respond, yet I don't know what the heck she is saying. She might as well be from France considering how well I understand her. We carry on conversations, yet little is understood. I know that she is interested in what I have to say so I listen to what she has to say.
Then I respond with a "Yeah", or "Uh-huh".
Sometimes when Jane talks, she ends her sentences by elevating the tone of her voice, as though she were asking me a question. It is so cute when she does that, trying so hard to communicate with me. Right now I call her language "gobbledy-gook", but sooner than I realize it will be real words coming out of her mouth and then I'll be able to know what her little brain is thinking about.

Oh my gosh your post made me laugh out-loud. Heather, you're so dang funny. Good luck with your exchange student -- I'm pretty sure she is telling you that she wants to collect miniature bottles of food products...ha!

I love that stage! I also love to go back and read my kids' journals where I wrote down the things they said once they really were talking clearly. It is so fun! We all laugh remembering the funny things. Can't wait to see you guys in December. I think we need a Scrabble re-match, by the way.

I totally understand, that is how my little girl is but the other day she said something like banana, while eating one, and baby, when she saw my sisters baby. It was great.

I understand completely. Addison is at the stage where she communicates better then me sometimes. Scary! We miss you guys!

I feel the same way! I have an almost-two year old and my older daughter has labeled her talk as "coolahgoo". And don't you ever wonder if you're saying "yeah, uh huh" to a question you really should be saying "not on your life" to? I do...

Thanks for submitting your post!

Makes me think of Finding Nemo and the scene where the little turtle is giving Nemo and his Dad directions :-).

(I thought maybe you'd know the movie reference since you have little ones :-)

Too funny! When I came over from BPOTW: I thought it was going to be a post about a real foreign exchange student. :)

But this one is probably going to be staying on a more permanent basis, I'm assuming. :)

Great post!
